Who Do You Worship?

Drug addiction is a battle of the mind, over who or what you worship. One of the speakers at the Bucks County Faith Summit II today held at Carnes University made a brilliant analogy: A speck of fentanyl can really mess you up, even kill you.  The faith of a mustard seed (in God) can save you.

About a dozen representatives from various Christian organizations rallied round at the summit to address how Christians can influence and turn the tide of the opioid epidemic. The consensus for the root cause of the problem of drug abuse among participants is that it is a result of sin. Drug abusers can conquer the problem by going to God and confessing their sin, and God will heal them.

There were testimonies from people whose lives were really messed up – their health, relationships…  But through faith in Jesus, they were redeemed.

At the summit were about ½ dozen tables used by groups that offered free brochures and staffed with representatives who were there to reach out and help others.

The best way to get people who have a substance abuse problem is to make them feel at home, especially in churches. None of us have it all together, and drug abusers should be welcomed in the church. Jesus did not die on the cross to save “good” people who have it all together. As was the case with King David, as told in the Psalms, David came clean, confessed his sins to God, was forgiven and made whole.

Once you surrender to Jesus, the faith of a mustard seed should grow.

“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 1:6

Surrendering your will over to Jesus will allow you to overcome any problem the world throws at you.
